Dustin & Bethany Kegeris

Dustin & Bethany work with Campus Crusade at UC Berkeley

Dustin grew up in church, but did not fully understand the extent of the gospel, believing that if he lived a “good” life, God would then “owe” him eternal life.  Dustin lived in this self-righteous manner until his sophomore year of college.  At the beginning of that year, God used the fellowship of believers in Campus Crusade for Christ at the University of Illinois to show him what it looked like to live a Spirit-filled life, completely surrendered to Christ, and living in joyful relationship with the Lord.  Throughout the rest of college, Dustin grew more deeply in his relationship with God through involvement in the local church, Bible studies, discipleship, evangelistic outreaches, and mission trips overseas and stateside.
Bethany also came from a Christian home; however, she was not a Christian herself until her freshmen year of college.  Growing up, she thought God was someone who took away joy and was all about rules, and therefore went after what the world says is satisfying.  It was in college that she realized how truly unsatisfied and broken she was.  Bored and wanting more, she asked God to change her desires. He faithfully did and also brought along Christian friends in her dorm to encourage her and study the Bible with her.  God used this Bible study to show Bethany that she only knew about Him, but did not have a relationship with Him.  God changed her heart and Christ became her Savior and Lord.  Through His Word, the Holy Spirit, and community, God continued to teach her to treasure and desire Christ more and more.

The Lord took Dustin and Bethany on the same stateside mission trip to New Jersey the summer before Dustin’s last year of college, and that is where they met.  They became good friends, but didn’t start dating until they both returned back to their respective homes after that trip.  They dated long distance for a year, and after that Dustin moved to San Luis Obispo to work as a Campus Crusade intern at Cal Poly while Bethany finished up her last year of school there.

In addition to the passion God gave them for each other during this time, He also directed their hearts toward seeking to reach college students together.  They were challenged by friends of theirs to pray about going to Cal with Campus Crusade, and although it didn’t initially sound very glamorous to them, they began to pray about the possibility.  Over the course of the year leading up to their wedding, God continued to put the ministry at UC-Berkeley on their hearts.  After joining Crusade staff, and seeing the clear need for laborers at Cal, they decided that Berkeley was where God would have them serve.

They joined Grace Bible Church in 2010 and have been a blessing to the Body here as well as to the students at Cal.  They have had the joy of watching God change many lives and bring students closer to Himself.  They would appreciate your prayer for them that Christ would be the foundation of their personal walks with the Lord, their marriage, and their staff team, and that they would trust in the power of God’s living and active Word and His Spirit to work in and through them at UC-Berkeley.
